WELL DONE to JERSEY for scoring 66 against the Bat & Ball team 34. This group of players, originating from a team that came over from Barclays Bank, have been coming over to Jersey and Guernsey for over 50 years. It was great to welcome them back this year as their visit last year was cancelled due to Storm CIARÁN.
We were delighted with the response to the table tennis tournament organised with Jersey Sport on Friday and were very grateful to all the teaching and support staff who accompanied the teams and also helped with umpiring. It was full on for 3 hours and the 44 children from the 5 schools (22 teams) are to be warmly commended for their quiet attention to instructions, sportsmanship and always trying their best. I hope that everyone had fun and it may have even inspired some to come back and learn more about technique and the rules.

A shout out goes to Theo who was unbeaten after his first 9 matches before finally losing to Toby Caldwell of Ormeau who were both unbeaten up to that point!
Freya Allaway who represented Cleve Park in division 3 of the Junior Girls League. Cleve Park finished the league top with 5 wins and won the accolade of girls team of the weekend. Freya contributed to this with an impressive 7 wins out of 8.
Hannah Silcock was playing in the junior girls Premier League and after the first 4 matches they were tied 1st with London Academy. Like Theo, Hannah was 9 out of 9 wins but finally lost to Sophie Barscali of London Academy. This meant that Grantham lost 4-

The 26th Home Countries Veterans Championships was hosted in Guernsey. Teams from Guernsey, ireland, Isle of Man, Jersey, England, Scotland and Wales competed.
Our Over 70’s team of Dave Le Clercq and Paul Routier faced some stiff opposition however Dave scored two very good wins against Wales and the Isle of Man. Paul had a close and well earned win against Guernsey. Playing against England, Scotland, Wales, Ireland, Isle of Man and Guernsey they were kept very busy and full marks to them for their stamina.
In the Over 70’s Doubles event Dave and Paul again found the opposition from England, Isle of Man and Guernsey too strong.
As Paul had just qualified in the next age range of Over 75’s Singles he entered that tournament, however although Paul played well and gained a game against them the opponents from Wales and Ireland were very experienced.
